PUR - FBPR approches Napier and Harkless for the National Team
3/12/2013

It turns out that the FBPR was making approches to Napier and Harkless since late 2012. Although the Basketball Federation of Puerto Rico has confirmed the availability of college listed, Devon Collier (Oregon State), Kevin Young (Kansas) and Matt Lopez (Utah State) to the national team this summer, the same can not be said of guard, Shabazz Napier (Connecticut) and NBA player Maurice Harkless (Orlando Magic). It turns out that both approaches were make to Napier as Harkless since late 2012, but as of this year communication were cut almost completely. Napier, whom FBPR visited last year in Connecticut and who came to Puerto Rico to practice before the injury left him out of Centrobasket, did not answer calls for a couple of months and even changed their phone. Apparently, Napier wants to enter the NBA draft and is not Puerto Rico a priority for him, especially when it comes to being named to the first team from the Big East Conference. The FBPR has not given up and now makes arrangements through the college. For Harkless, the FBPR had plans to go visit Orlando in early 2013 when, suddenly, all communication was cut in January.  The point is that now Harkless dosen't answer calls and also Orlando management aren't very cooperative to say. The talks with guard Ricky Ledo, who has not decided whether to debut in Provicence in the fall of 2013 or he will be launched to theNBA draft.
Moreover, Fernando Olivero traveled to Spain this week to meet with Andres Rodriguez basis and forward John Holland, -who play in the ACB- and got the commitment of both players for the National Team this summer. Similarly, the federation president Carlos Beltran went to Argentina and got similar commitment from Ricky Sanchez and Daniel Santiago, who play in the Southern Cone.
